Field Trip to City Center

Ethan and his class went on a field trip today to the city center in Orem.  They walked to the library and the police station.  They toured both places, ate lunch, and had story time at the library.  On the way home, they walked by our house.  I was home and heard the door bell ring.  I was surprised to open the door and see Ethan and his class there.  It was a great surprise!

Ward Council

This morning I had to go to ward council because our Primary president was out of town.  The meeting was from 7:30 - 8:30.  Church starts at 9, so I was a little worried about how I would get the kids ready for church.  I talked to them last night about helping each other get ready.  We got all of their clothes out, so it would be easy for them.  I was so proud of them.  I got home and Brandon was already gone.  He has to be at church at 8:30 to help set up chairs.  All of the other kids were all ready to go!  They did a really good job!

Summer Job

Brandon got a job for the summer.  He is volunteering at the Scera movie theater.  They play movies every week during the summer, eleven weeks.  They sell tickets pretty cheap, I think they are $7 per person to see all eleven movies.  It is something fun to do in the summer, the kids like going.  Brandon is going to work on Monday mornings.  He will work from 9-1, I think.  Today he went in for some training.  He had a good time and he is excited to get started.  He starts June 3rd.  One perk of him working there, is that we get a free family pass to go to all of the movies.  The kids are excited!

Read-a-Thon

Tonight the kids decided that they wanted to have a read-a-thon.  Brandon had to finish up some reading for school on Monday.  He has been working on it all week.  I think at the beginning of the week he still needed to read seven books.  After reading this week, and then tonight, he just has two more to go!  Tonight we all read for about three hours.  Alex didn't last that long, but the rest of us did.  We all rode our bikes to the library after dinner and then just read.  Here is a picture of the kids reading at the library...

Pioneer Trek

Daniela had a great time on the pioneer trek today.  The whole fourth grade took pioneer carts to a teacher's house about two miles away from the school.  They set up lean-tos, marched with the Mormon Battalion, ate lunch, dutch oven cobbler, played lots of pioneer games, and did pioneer crafts.  Then they trekked back to the school.  It was a fun day, one she'll always remember.

Edible Engineering

Ethan had to make an edible car for school.  The only thing that he could use that wasn't edible was something for the axles.  It had to be able to make it down a ramp.  Here is what he made...

It made it all of the way down the ramp in one piece!  He was excited.  He came home and celebrated by...

It got him a good grade and he said it was delicious!

Ganglion Cyst

See that bump on my wrist, that is a ganglion cyst.

I didn't know what it was, just that it appeared about a week and a half ago.  I went to the doctor today.  He  poked it with a needle to drain all of the fluid out of it.  It kind of hurt.  No, I did not watch!  The doctor kept saying how cool it was to see all of the liquid shoot out.  Personally, I think that it is pretty gross.  I'm glad that it's gone.  It kind of hurt.  He said that it could come back, we'll have to see.

Medieval Faire

Brandon had his Medieval Faire today.  He worked with two of his friends at school.  They decided to be miners.  They have worked really hard to get everything done and it all went great.  They made a mine with a pop up shade thing and cardboard.  They crinkled up aluminum foil and wrapped up pennies, nickels, and dimes.  They hot glued them to the wall.  They even made some pick axes.  Kids could come and mine at their cave.  They wore jeans and t-shirts and covered themselves in mud to look like they had worked in the mine all day.  Here are some pics...

Egg Drop

Ethan had to do a school project due today. You've probably heard of it. It's where Ethan has to build something that will go on or around or with a raw egg. Someone would take it and drop it off of the school roof. The goal is to not have the egg break. At first we tried cutting a nerf football in half, carving out a little spot for the egg, putting the egg inside, and then duct-taping the football back together again. We saw this on a YouTube video and theirs worked perfectly. Well, ours broke on the first try. Then Ali and Becca came up with a great idea. They put the egg inside of a small tupperware container. The egg was surrounded by Styrofoam. They then suspended the container inside of an empty box with rubber bands on each side. The container barely moved, but the rubber bands were absorbing all of the shock. Ethan came home and said it worked perfectly. Good job E-man and moms.

Fun at Becca's

We had a fun night.  We went to Becca's house for dinner.  Stephanie and her family were there as well.  We missed Adam and his family, they had sick kids.  It was fun to get together and visit.  The kids had a great time.

The kids even took turns getting rides with Greg on his new Harley!  All of the kids had a turn, we just didn't get pictures of them all.

End of Soccer Season

I only took a picture of Alex today.  I'll have to take one with all of the kids and post it later.  This is a picture of Alex and his cousin, Cooper.

Header

Ethan had an awesome header in tonight's soccer game.  The other team's goalie had it and kicked it really far with a drop kick.  Ethan was sitting right about at midfield when he saw the ball in the air coming right at him.  He tensed up and leaned forward to head it.  He hit it perfectly with his head and the ball went sailing way back up field.  The fans gave a huge cheer because he did a great job and didn't back away from it.  Right after, he looked around to make sure that we were looking and saw it.  You could tell he was very pleased.
